Sydney Wayser
"French-American multi-instrumentalist and stunning vocalist Sydney Wayser has emerged with her sophomore album The Colorful, a more lighthearted follow-up to 2007’s The Silent Parade. Where The Silent Parade leaned towards the dark and melancholic, The Colorful presents a collection of songs decorated with the playfulness of toy instruments while maintaining 22-year-old Wayser’s sense of intimate and serene elegance. Praised by NPR for her “natural gift for melody and musicianship,” The Colorful demonstrates a developed maturity that showcases this gift clearly and delicately. Now based in New York, Wayser grew up in LA, spending her summers in Paris. The Louvre and the Orangerie being only a few blocks from her apartment, she quickly gleaned much of French culture from her songwriter father, leading her to musical influences that include Edith Piaf, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Jacques Brel, among many others. This European sensibility is evident on both The Silent Parade and The Colorful, each filled with tunes that could easily provide a soundtrack to a Godard film or a playful scene from Jeunet's Amélie."

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson
Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, based on name alone, may sound like a president on first offing, but give his eponymous, debut album a spin and you'll soon realise a more relevant career has presented itself for this 25-year-old Brooklyn bard. This is modern music made the old-fashioned way: take ragged, soulful and completely compelling hymns for tough times, throw into the mix an impressive array of backing musicians, and just record what happens. His sophomore album is Summer of Fear, out October 20th on Saddle Creek Records. New York has been sadly lacking a proper troubadour looking at the stars while mired in the gutter--but in Miles, we have our man.

Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers (Ex- Beat The Devil)
"Following the demise of her previous band, Beat the Devil, Ray has struck out on her own, further showcasing her seemingly indestructible vocal chords. She screams, growls, and snarls her way through the screeching muck of oil-stained garage rock and backwoods blues, cresting just above the waves of a sonic tumult that threatens to consume her minuscule frame. This tenuous command of a raucous sound makes for a volatile breed of rock and roll."

Billy Boogie
Djing for over a decade now, boogie has changed styles a few times as his music tastes were altered. Starting out way back DJing techno on vinyl, he\'s made his way through \"hard trance\" and techy house to finally reside with a type of driving, full power psy trance. Boogie has shared the stage with the likes of Ajja, Infected Mushroom, Yab Yum, Cosmosis, Mexican Trance Mafia, Transdriver, Onkel Dunkel, The Crystal Method and so many more.

Enertopia
Emiliano Solazzi Griminger (Moti Griminger) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and lived in Beer Sheva, Israel, most of his life. At the age of 18 he was already leading a very succesful Israeli death metal band called CEREBRAL COMA, where he played guitar and vocals, which had mayor success in the international and national underground scene. In 1992, Emiliano hooked up with Ziv Matushka, another pioneer in the Israeli electronic music scene and, together, they started to experiment with more Industrial music and eventually wrote Goa and Psy trance. Ziv joined P.Cok, and Emiliano continued his project as ENERTOPIA. The first single by Enertopia was released in 1996 by B.N.E Israel in a compilation called DESTINATION ISRAEL, and after a few months he was signed by KREMBO Records (Israel). The first full length album was called MAGIC FOR ETERNITY, released in 1997, followed by FACE ADAPTOR, co-written with Yuli Fershtat AKA B.L.T, Perfect Stranger. In between 1996 and 1998 Enertopia released two full albums and numerous singles. His Third album “Divine” was released on September of 2008 on Geomagnetic.TV and it was received all over the world with great success. Nowadays, based in USA, Emiliano has founded “Warp Brain Records”, the first east-coast label of PsyTrance and Progressive trance.

Fuzz Orchestra
From Italy--"Fuzz Orchestra was born in 2005, Luca Ciffo (guitar/voice), Fiè (analogic manipulations) and Marco Mazzoldi (drums) decide, while running other musical projects (Bron Y Aur, Collettivo A6), to start a band moving on different coordinates. Starting from radical improvisation, the band achieves to forge a sound which, today, is built on strong rock textures, guitar and drums based, on which a fluxus of outer sounds (old movies, old vinyls cut ups, noise streams and real time audio manipulations) ties and rages. In 2007 they release their self titled debut album, scarcely 30 minutes between noise and kraut rock, the themes being glorious (La Resistenza against fascism) and dark (’60 and ’70 state terrorism) moments of contemporary italian history. In 2009, with the second album “Comunicato n.2”, the music gets more brutal and heavy, while the band gives voice back to those who have tried to revolt against the inhuman capitalist world order. From 2007 to these days, Fuzz Orchestra has been playing live restlessly in Italy and Europe."

Charles Latham
"Charles Latham wields an acid tongue and a poison pen, crafting social criticism and brutal self-analysis into three and a half minute ramshackle pop songs. His songs are often exercises in duality: he finds humor in horror and horror in humor, the profane in beauty and beauty in the profane. In a live performance, his audience often laughs and smiles, but he rarely does. His lofi home recordings compliment the harsh honesty of his lyrics; his guitar buzzes and rings, and his snarling voice leaps, cracks and cries. Originally from Washington, DC, Charles Latham began playing music professionally while living in Brighton, England as a student. The UK's folk/punk or "antifolk" scene adopted him as one of their own: Latham was the only non British act to perform at the 2004 Winter Antifolk Fest in London. It wasnt long until he was playing frequent gigs in Brighton and London. In 2005, Latham was voted "Best of Sussex" by a panel of judges at the Sussex Battle of the Bands, winning the grand prize. After returning to the States, Charles Latham completed his first full length album, "Pretty Mouth" in the spring of 2006; the album is a collection of home recordings captured on an 8 track in various locations in the UK and at his home near DC."

Liat
"Liat has been singing all her life but playing guitar since she was fifteen. There has been many people that have inspired Liat through out her life but the one that sticks out the most would be her father. Liat's father always sang the Beatles to her when ever they were together. Late one night it hit her. She ran down stairs and said "Aba I want to play guitar just like you." Over time she began to love guitar and write songs everyday. Liat began writing her own songs and performing at open mic nights at the age of 15, now that she is 20 she has made a name for herself. She is a strong, creative, and unique woman with a guitar and a soul to give to the world."

Bellmer Dolls
Hypnotic and harrowing, the music crafted by Bellmer Dolls defies any standard categorization. Lending themselves to comparisons to Nick Cave/The Birthday Party – and in a similar vein as deathrock bands like Gun Club and Cop Shoot Cop – Bellmer Dolls’ music merges neurotic, jangly guitars with incantational drumbeats and a brooding bassline. With vocals that seem to conjure the spirits of decadence and debauchery, Mavrogeorgis’ raspy, funk yelps sound like the remnants of an as-yet unfinished bender.

Monozid
In 2003, three people met in a small room in the north-west of leipzig starting to play together. influenced by 80s new wave and postpunk. Publicist
"Publicist is Sebastian Thomson, drum banger of such awesome indie disco staples as Weird War and Trans Am. This new incarnation takes the shimmering sexghost of disco and pummels it into a sleek panther that leaps from shadow to shadow briefly glimpsed in the reflection of disco lights on the effervescent surface of a flute of champagne. On new 12″, “Momma”, old pal Ian Svenonious replaces the vocoder with his trademark sermon on the flaming mount yelps, he’s the reason that The Make-Up made us bark like spazz-dogs losing all our shit in the middle of the dancefloor, why Weird War sounded like funk beamed from the darkside of a nightmare war-torn planetoid and the reason why Nation of Ulysses sounded like a wall of laser guns tumbling in on us, smoking turret-end-first. B-side “Stone Age” sees Ian hard-wired and assimilated into wobbling synth trajectories, barking a tale of funked-up cavemen through a robotic loud-speaker across an undulating sea of perspex disco and the kind of kinetic drumming that makes all the items in your room come alive and bump to the sound before spontaneously exploding like glitter bombs."

Grant Hart
From Husker Du/Nova Mob--"In 1979, Grant Hart formed the post-hardcore punk band Husker Du with Bob Mould, and became an underground icon in the decade that followed. Shortly after the group split in 1987, Hart launched a solo career, recording five solo albums between 1988 and '99 (plus two more as leader of Nova Mob). His newest record, Hot Wax, arrived last fall after a 10-year hiatus. Hot Wax builds on a solid power-pop foundation, with unexpected elements of '60s-tinged psychedelia. Hart has had his share of ups and downs over the years — he battled heroin addiction near the end of his Husker Du tenure, and never fully regained the commercial success of his former band — but Hot Wax showcases the endurance and continued viability of a surprisingly underappreciated punk icon. Adam and Dave's Bloodline
"Adam & Dave’s Bloodline, a band who has cruised the local Philly scene in recent years while occasionally opening for the likes of Jay Reatard and the Meat Puppets, are shape-shifters. The band has never shied away from genre-bashing techniques in the past - one of their older songs called “The Traveler”, Petersen once said, was essentially fused together from the Crystals’ “Then He Kissed Me” and Bob Dylan and the Band’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” . These guys deliver rock and pop with guitar hooks aplenty. At times sounding radio-ready while unabashedly indie-rock, A&D's Bloodline are a solid troupe of local noisemakers."

Gasoline Heart
"Gasoline Heart is not an indie rock band. They are a rock band, and a good old fashioned bar band at that. Like any rock band Gasoline Heart doesn’t have an exact sound to compare themselves to. It’s about a spirit, an attitude pulsing behind the chords and shouts. Gasoline Heart is the bottom of the bottle attitude that The Replacements famously showed off when playing Tom Petty covers as they opened for Tom Petty — they didn’t care that an arena was booing them. They were just having fun, and that is the spirit of Gasoline Heart."

"S.O.S. began in Minneapolis, MN in April 2005 as an all-female band with catchy hooks, unique lyrics, and thoughtful, well-crafted music. The band displays talent, passion, and an ever-present sense of humor that shapes many of their songs. They combine sympathetic acoustic moments with driving electric rock, often in the same song. With influences ranging from John Fohgerty to Joan Jett, Sleater-Kinney to Vanessa Carlton, Sick of Sarah brings an energy and blended alternative pop-rock style that will have you singing along after the first chorus."

After Seth Kauffman’s 2006 debut and 2007 follow-up left critics drawing comparisons as diverse as Motown to the Carribean, Kauffman returns as Floating Action. This April, Park The Van Records will release Floating Action’s self-titled debut, and Kauffman’s most accomplished work to date. Once again Kauffman has performed and recorded virtually every note himself at his home studio, and – in an age where obsessive computer editing and auto-tuning are taking the humanity out of even most home recordings – once again his refreshingly organic approach to making music is receiving rave reviews: “He invokes those classic, soul staples of deep and penetrating bass lines, simple but ideal and perfect lyrics about the troubles of love and jingling guitars. He gives you the jitters and the absolute sway is all his.

Hair Rocket
Listening to Novelty the self-released EP by Hair Rocket forced me to come once again face-to-face with my last breakup. Like any good breakup, it’s equal parts dark, mysterious and bizarre. Despite the deeply personal nature of the lyrics, they are no less relatable. Chris Blasucci (former multi-instrumentalist for Aderbat) wrote and released Novelty after a particularly messy split. The chaos that he endured is shared for all to hear on his debut album. First of all, Blasucci is not only creating subversive and introspective music, he is also starting a Hair Rocket movement. One where participants remove locks of their own hair, attach them to projectiles and then unleash these projectiles into the atmosphere, thus, giving you an elevated perspective - pretty twisted stuff.

The Gunslingers
From France--"Demented Guitar wall-of-acid-riffs, pissed off takeoffs & instrumental smashs on bewitchment mode, harmonic death traps, pulsatory frenzy & insane grooves in the likes of a vicious contortionist highway, startling surrealistic vocals sealed to a psychotic Daedalus-esque bass unfurling, and ultimately a scary statement of visceral power."

Gentlemen Christ
"Gentlemen Christ may have the guise of being one band, but don’t be fooled by appearances. There are two bands trapped in that one entity. One band has an affinity for early metal and 90s grunge rock, while the other prefers the epic ballads and shimmering harmonies of Roger Waters era Pink Floyd. Typically, one style will overpower the other, but not on Gentlemen Christ’s latest release PVC Cross. They have found a way to balance the album out almost equally between the two. Lyrically, PVC Cross is heavily laden with occult-like religious rhetoric, but in more poetic way than your dime a dozen metal bands tend to portray it. The duality of the record has appeal for both genres stated before, without going overboard on one to alienate the other. It's heavy enough for the metal-heads, and spacey enough for the epic balladeers..."

La Otracina
Brooklyn NY--"LA OTRACINA is the New Wave of Psychedelic Heavy Metal, a contemporary musical vision exploding with classic influences and mind-warping sonic fusions! Their sound is a dense and majestic universe where the epic glory of 70’s proto-metal and hard-rock dance with the graceful complexity of cosmic progressive rock and the hallucinogenic mystery of heavy psychedelia, and all the while free-form improvisational interludes give way to poly-rhythmic thrash assaults and spiraling jazz-rock freakouts! Bruce Lucy
Bruce Lucy is a Philly-based trio of keys, guitar, and drums that believes in the power of a pop chorus, stickers, the magic of back-up vocals, dancing, and fun. They’ve crafted a sound rooted in 50s and 60s doo-wop and pop stylings that is filtered through a trio instrumentation with heavy tones reminiscent of punk and 90s rock. Foster’s keys are distorted and create a unique instrument somewhere between guitar and piano. While laying down the groundwork, his range of tones shapes each song’s character. With an equal breadth of tones, Gina adds a top layer of PUNCH. During a set, her work extends beyond one instrument, as she switches off between guitar and bass. Josh is the solid rock and mustache of the band. His explosive-attack style brings on the fierce beats that hold Bruce Lucy together.

DeLeon
DeLeon plays 15th Century Spanish indie rock infused with the deeply mysterious and entrancing cadences of the ancient Sephardic tradition. Their music, birthed in Spain before the Inquisition and raised in pre-WWII Italy, has finally reached maturity in modern-day Brooklyn. The band, named for 12th Century Kabalistic philosopher Moses DeLeon and front man Daniel Saks’ great-grandfather Giorgio DeLeon, reconciles Saks’ cultural journey with modern influences. By re-imagining these ancient melodies as contemporary pieces, DeLeon has given the world at large a unique chance to experience the rich musical history of Sephardic Judaism.

Baby Flamehead released one great album in 1990 on Texas Hotel Records called Life Sandwich and squeezed out one tour before Bresnan's departure (Burda slung over his shoulder) and Dean's Milkmen obligations put the band into several years of low gear. Unwed Sailor
"Born in Seattle in 1998 at the tender age of intent, Unwed Sailor is helmed by Oklahoma-born songwriter Johnathon Ford. The basis for the instrumental project came into being while Ford was still writing with Seattle luminaries Roadside Monument. Pulling towards a bass guitar-oriented sound, the songs he had begun to craft did not fully feel right for Roadside Monument, thus the unbeknownst predestined forming of Unwed Sailor. Not aiming for Unwed Sailor to fall into the regular confines of a typical band, Ford's ever evolving cast and crew has been tirelessly composed over the years of good friends and company. Throughout the past decade, Unwed Sailor has shared the stage with the likes of Pedro the Lion, Mary Timony, Low, The Danielson Famile, Sufjan Stevens, Early Day Miners, Minus the Bear, The Advantage, The Starlight Mints, Battles, Mates of State, and Beach House(just to name a few....). The band has since been relocated and based out of cities across the United States, including Chicago, Seattle, Washington D.C., Jackson MS, Little Rock, AR, and most recently Lawrence, KS. With numerous tours in the U.S. and Europe, the band has traveled almost as much as it has evolved."

The Infinite Choir

Japanese Sunday
Drifting sheets of guitar cascade like frozen waves of distortion and crescendo, only to wash themselves away when thoughts turn warmer. Complex and intertwining melodies (focusing mostly on guitars) bring on the Sunny Day Real Estate and My Bloody Valentine comparisons. And with subdued vocals buried in the mix like the suspended colors beneath an oil spill, some Hum influences shine through. Japanese Sunday builds walls of distortion that add weight without making it metallic. This is clever guitar based indie rock of a higher caliber on its initial ascent skyward. Heads are craning upward in unison.

Lair Of The Minotaur
Southern Lord Records--"Five winters have passed in the Lair of the Minotaur. Mountainous riffs, pounding. Emerging from the caustic burrows of vast caves by the great lake in the mid-western plains. Choosing a path of crushing annihilation, under the sign of the Southern Lord. Ancient war cries spit forth with a sharp tongue. Heralding CARNAGE, and then triumphantly THE ULTIMATE DESTROYER. Now murder reigns..."

Ludicra
The San Francisco-based quintet Ludicra specializes in straight-ahead black metal (i.e., no gothic keyboards, pagan folk influences, or electronic leanings) in a style influenced by bands such as Darkthrone, Gorgoroth, Dodheimsgard, and Bethlehem. The group formed in 1999 and consists of guitarist John Cobbett (Hammers of Misfortune and The Lord Weird Slough Feg), guitarist/vocalist Christy Cather, bassist Ross Sewage (also of the Impaled and formerly of Exhumed), vocalist Laurie Sue Shanaman, and drummer Aesop (also of Agalloch, formerly of Hickey/Fuckboyz). Their original lineup included another member, Jesika Christ (also formally of the Bay Area death/black metal band Sangre Amado), who is credited with writing some of the material on the first Ludicra album. That album, entitled "Hollow Psalms," came out in 2002 on the Bay Area-based label Life Is Abuse. That recording also featured guest contributions from Melynda Jackson (SubArachnoid Space) and Lorraine Rath. Ludicra play semi-regularly in the San Francisco area, where they have built up a strong reputation based on their intense live shows; in which they have shared the stage with a diverse ranging of bands including the death metal quartet Impaled, the post-hardcore/noise outfit Total Shutdown, and instrumental math metallers The Fucking Champs.

Tombs
Brooklyn's Tombs deliver a stunning tour-de-force with their Relapse Records debut "Winter Hours." The trio tread a unique musical path that draws equally from several disparate music worlds. The austere and appropriately-titled album is a somber, sobering affair that brings together hypnotic psychedelic harmonies, lush and introspective sonic textures, and a relentless intensity found in the most blackened metal to stunning effect. Whether through driving melodies, explosive noise, or the most fragile of interludes, "Winter Hours" hits hard and resonates deeply within the listener.

Krallice
Known as one of the most respected virtuosic guitar wizards today, Mick Barr has displayed his polarizing guitar histrionics in such bizarre outfits as OCRILIM and ORTHRELM, pretty much bending and stretching the rules of modern-day guitar playing and giving a new meaning to progressive guitar playing. Colin Marston also has quite the pedigree backing his repertoire. With the likes of such bands as BEHOLD… THE ARCTOPUS, DYSRHYTHMIA, BYLA etc., Marston has proven to be one of the most prolific and recognized musicians in technical/extreme progressive metal (especially since he is known to brand that menacing 12-string Warr Guitar). KRALLICE nonetheless has been something that has been lurking within the psyche of Barr (who also portrays the vocal offerings in Krallice) and Marston for quite some time. Pretty much also known as being disciples of true and real black metal, Krallice would inevitably become more of a reality for Barr and Marston; something for them to fulfill their black metal spirit and also come to a realization of where their other calling lies. Also Krallice at the same time provides a vehicle for Barr to actually play and record in an actual band setting of sorts (which is very rare these days) and Marston to play in a band that actually has vocals and lyrical content (which is also very rare these days). With their debut self-titled album, Krallice employ the musical landscape familiar with Barr and Marston’s musical repertoire, but this time translate it in a visceral tremolo-layered black metal vision that will easily triumph as one of the most recognized black metal albums to be released in 2008. Comprised of six epic time-stretching hymns, the Krallice debut is a vitriolic, hypnotizing, elongated black metal pillage that brings such musical aesthetics reminiscent of the likes of early BUZRUM, ULVER’S “Nattens Madrigal” album, GORGOROTH (“Antichrist” in particular), and U.S. black metal legends WEAKLING, all mixed within Barr and Marston’s black metal vision; one like no other within the realm of U.S. black metal. Nonetheless, Krallice seem to be poised to penetrate and carve their own bloody niche within U.S. black metal and also plan on playing live, on occasion..

Stushido
"Stushido is a band with a funkier and more danceable backbeat than most jam bands, but it isn't afraid to break out some rock muscle when necessary. A trio with a lead bassist, the group adopts a rhythm-centric approach that drives the songs on an internal combustion engine of Les Claypool-styled riffs. Still pretty new to the scene, Stushido has recently made its name by playing alongside some of the area's best local talent and at some of the coolest festivals around town."

Brother Dege
"Brother Dege ("deej") is one of the best-kept secrets in the Deep South: an award-winning writer, musician, journalist. Like Faulkner genetically spliced with Son House, Legg plays slide guitar in the old, haunted tradition of the blues greats, breathing new life into the revered Delta idiom. With the raw twang of his Dobro calling up ghosts of the past, he sings of his own experience growing up in the Deep South— roaming the playground of the swamplands. Cinematic, dusty passages give way to barn burning stompers. Apocalyptic prophecies rise out of a fog, only to be buried in a deeper fog. Through all it, one thing is obvious: a mind-blowing new take on a great old tradition has emerged."

Skeletonbreath

Gang Green
Emerging from the 80's Boston hardcore scene, Gang Green was and still is an unabashed party band specializing in beer-soaked, warp-speed three-chord thrash. Obsessed with beer, skateboarding, sex, and more beer, we slowly added stronger hints of heavy metal as our career wore on (and on). We continue with our simple party-hearty philosophy and what we consider our own unique streak of humor... playing hard, drinking hard and surviving even more wasted nights.
